eToro Forex Review 2026

eToro scores 70.9 out of 100, the lowest overall score in our audit. That number might surprise people given eToro's massive brand recognition. But this is a forex-focused review, and eToro wasn't built for forex traders. It was built for social and copy trading across multiple asset classes. Its CopyTrader feature is genuinely industry-leading, and the platform is remarkably user-friendly. The forex-specific metrics, though, are weak: wider spreads, no MetaTrader, no micro lots, withdrawal fees, and conversion charges on non-USD deposits.

Overall Score: 70.9 / 100

Score Breakdown

| Category | Score | Weight | |----------|-------|--------| | Regulation & Trust | 82 / 100 | 25% | | Trading Costs | 55 / 100 | 20% | | Platforms & Tools | 72 / 100 | 15% | | Account Conditions | 75 / 100 | 10% | | Deposit & Withdrawal | 68 / 100 | 10% | | Customer Support | 65 / 100 | 10% | | Education & Research | 78 / 100 | 10% | | Overall | 70.9 / 100 | |

The scores reflect eToro's identity as a multi-asset social platform rather than a forex specialist. Trading Costs at 55 and Deposit & Withdrawal at 68 drag the overall score down significantly. The $5 withdrawal fee and currency conversion charges on non-USD deposits are costs that dedicated forex brokers don't impose.

Regulation & Safety

| Regulator | Tier | License | Entity | |-----------|------|---------|--------| | FCA (UK) | Tier 1 | 583263 | eToro (UK) Ltd | | CySEC (Cyprus) | Tier 2 | 109/10 | eToro (Europe) Ltd | | ASIC (Australia) | Tier 1 | 491139 | eToro AUS Capital Ltd | | FSA Seychelles | Tier 3 | SD076 | eToro (Seychelles) Ltd |

Two Tier 1 licenses (FCA, ASIC) plus CySEC is a solid foundation. International clients outside these jurisdictions are served through the Seychelles entity. Negative balance protection and segregated funds are provided. Investor compensation through FSCS (UK) and ICF (EU).

Trading Costs

Spreads

| Pair | Average Spread | |------|---------------| | EUR/USD | 1.00 pips | | GBP/USD | 2.00 pips | | USD/JPY | 1.50 pips |

These are some of the widest spreads in our review. EUR/USD at 1.00 pips is 10x wider than raw spread accounts at IC Markets or Pepperstone. GBP/USD at 2.00 pips is particularly wide. No commission is charged, but the spread-only model at these levels makes eToro expensive for active forex trading.

Other Fees

  • Inactivity fee: $10/month after 12 months
  • Deposit fees: Free, but currency conversion fee applies for non-USD deposits
  • Withdrawal fees: $5 per withdrawal
  • Conversion fee: ~50 basis points on non-USD deposits

The $5 withdrawal fee is notable. Most competitors offer free withdrawals. The conversion fee for non-USD deposits adds another hidden cost for non-US traders. eToro only supports USD as a base currency.

Account Types

eToro offers a single Standard account type:

| Feature | Standard | |---------|----------| | Min. Deposit | $50 (varies: up to $10,000 in some countries) | | Spread From | 1.00 pips | | Commission/Lot | $0 | | Max Leverage | 1:30 |

No raw spread option. No ECN account. No micro lot trading (minimum 0.1 lots). The minimum deposit varies significantly by country, from $50 to $10,000.

Demo account and Islamic account are available.

Trading Platforms & Tools

eToro's proprietary platform is the only option. No MT4, no MT5, no cTrader, no TradingView.

The eToro Platform is designed for simplicity and social interaction. The interface is clean and intuitive. CopyTrader is the headline feature, allowing you to automatically replicate the trades of other users. You can browse traders by performance, risk level, and asset focus.

The platform is not built for advanced technical analysis. Charting tools are basic compared to MetaTrader or cTrader. There are no Expert Advisors, no custom indicators, and no API trading access.

No VPS hosting.

For traders who want social features and simplicity, eToro delivers. For traders who want platform flexibility and advanced tools, it doesn't.

Education & Research

eToro Academy provides courses, webinars, and video content. The education is geared toward beginners and covers both platform use and general investing concepts. Market analysis is available. No trading signals or trading calculators.

The education is decent for the target audience but not in the same league as XM or AvaTrade for structured forex learning.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Industry-leading copy trading (CopyTrader)
  • User-friendly social trading platform
  • Low $50 minimum deposit (in most countries)
  • 6,000+ instruments including real stocks and crypto
  • Strong brand recognition and trust
  • FCA and ASIC regulated

Cons:

  • Wider forex spreads than specialist brokers (1.00 pips EUR/USD)
  • No MT4/MT5/cTrader/TradingView
  • $5 withdrawal fee
  • $10/month inactivity fee after 12 months
  • No micro lot trading
  • Currency conversion fees on non-USD deposits
  • Only 49 forex pairs (vs 96 at Exness, 80 at IG)

Final Verdict

eToro is not a forex broker in the traditional sense. It's a social investment platform that happens to offer forex trading. If you want to learn by copying experienced traders, explore multiple asset classes from a single platform, and don't mind paying a premium for that convenience, eToro does what it does very well.

For dedicated forex trading, it's hard to recommend. The spreads are wide, platform flexibility is zero, and the fee structure (withdrawal charges, conversion fees) adds costs that specialist brokers don't impose. Active forex traders will save significant money at IC Markets, Pepperstone, or any of the raw-spread brokers in our review.

eToro ranks #3 in our beginner broker list thanks to CopyTrader's learning value, but for pure forex, other brokers score better across the board.
