Score Breakdown
AvaTrade Review 2026
AvaTrade scores 79.8 out of 100 and ranks as the #1 broker for beginners in our audit. Its combination of award-winning education, multiple copy trading platforms, and strong multi-jurisdictional regulation makes it the standout choice for new traders. The main drawback is an aggressive inactivity fee structure: $50 after just 3 months, escalating to a $100 admin fee after 12 months.

Score Breakdown
| Category | Score | Weight | |----------|-------|--------| | Regulation & Trust | 85 / 100 | 25% | | Trading Costs | 68 / 100 | 20% | | Platforms & Tools | 78 / 100 | 15% | | Account Conditions | 78 / 100 | 10% | | Deposit & Withdrawal | 82 / 100 | 10% | | Customer Support | 82 / 100 | 10% | | Education & Research | 90 / 100 | 10% | | Overall | 79.8 / 100 | |
Education & Research at 90 is second only to XM (92) in our audit. AvaTrade won the ForexBrokers.com Best for Beginners award in 2026, and the quality of its learning resources backs that up. Trading Costs at 68 is below average, reflecting the spread-only pricing model without raw spread options.
Regulation & Safety
| Regulator | Tier | License | Entity | |-----------|------|---------|--------| | CBI (Ireland) | Tier 2 | C53877 | AVA Trade EU Ltd | | ASIC (Australia) | Tier 1 | 406684 | Ava Capital Markets Australia Pty Ltd | | FSCA (South Africa) | Tier 2 | 45984 | Ava Capital Markets Pty Ltd | | CySEC (Cyprus) | Tier 2 | 347/17 | Ava Trade Middle East Ltd | | FSA Seychelles | Tier 3 | SD076 | Ava Trade Markets Ltd | | BVI FSC | Tier 3 | SIBA/L/13/1049 | AVA Trade Ltd |
One Tier 1 license (ASIC) and three Tier 2. The CBI (Central Bank of Ireland) regulation provides EU MiFID II protections. The regulatory spread is broad but doesn't reach the Tier 1 depth of IG or OANDA. Some international clients will be served through the Seychelles or BVI entities.
Negative balance protection, segregated funds, and investor compensation (up to EUR 20,000 through EU schemes) are provided.
Trading Costs
Spreads
| Pair | Retail Avg. | Professional Avg. | |------|-----------|-------------------| | EUR/USD | 0.90 pips | 0.60 pips | | GBP/USD | 1.50 pips | 1.10 pips | | USD/JPY | 1.10 pips | 0.80 pips |
AvaTrade uses a spread-only model with no commission on any account. There are no raw spread accounts available. The 0.90 pip average on EUR/USD is decent for a zero-commission broker but noticeably wider than the all-in costs at raw-spread brokers.
Other Fees
- Inactivity fee: $50 after 3 months of inactivity, $100 admin fee after 12 months
- Deposit fees: Free
- Withdrawal fees: Free
That inactivity fee is the most aggressive in our review. $50 kicking in after just 3 months will hurt casual traders. If you're someone who trades sporadically, this is a serious consideration. IC Markets, Pepperstone, and Tickmill charge no inactivity fees at all.
Account Types
| Feature | Retail | Professional | |---------|--------|-------------| | Min. Deposit | $100 | $100 | | Spread From | 0.90 pips | 0.60 pips | | Commission/Lot | $0 | $0 | | Max Leverage | 1:30 | 1:400 |
Simple two-tier structure. Professional classification requires meeting criteria (trading volume, portfolio size, or financial sector experience). Demo accounts, Islamic accounts, and micro lot trading are available.
Trading Platforms & Tools
AvaTrade offers MT4, MT5, and several proprietary platforms:
AvaTradeGO is a mobile-first platform designed for simplicity. Clean interface, easy order placement, and integrated social features. It's particularly good for beginners who find MetaTrader overwhelming.
WebTrader is the browser-based option. Functional for basic trading and account management.
AvaOptions is unique: it's a dedicated forex options trading platform. No other broker in our review offers a comparable tool for retail forex options.
MT4 and MT5 provide the standard MetaTrader experience.
What's missing: no cTrader, no TradingView. No API trading access, which rules out algorithmic trading. VPS hosting is available.
Copy trading is a major AvaTrade feature, with three platforms: AvaSocial, DupliTrade, and ZuluTrade. This gives beginners multiple ways to follow experienced traders while they learn. No other broker in our review offers three copy trading options.
Education & Research
AvaTrade's education earned a score of 90 and the ForexBrokers.com Best for Beginners 2026 award. The offering includes:
- Structured online courses from beginner to advanced
- Regular webinars with market experts
- Video tutorials covering platform use and trading concepts
- Daily market analysis and research reports
- Trading signals
- Economic calendar and calculators
The quality and organisation of the educational content is what separates AvaTrade from competitors. Courses are structured progressively, with clear learning paths. Market analysis is updated daily. For someone starting from zero, AvaTrade's education hub is one of the best places to begin.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Award-winning education (ForexBrokers.com Best for Beginners 2026)
- Three copy trading platforms (AvaSocial, DupliTrade, ZuluTrade)
- Strong multi-jurisdictional regulation (6 regulators, including ASIC)
- AvaTradeGO mobile app designed for ease of use
- AvaOptions for forex options trading (unique)
- Free deposits and withdrawals
Cons:
- Aggressive inactivity fee ($50 after 3 months, $100 admin after 12 months)
- No raw spread account option
- Wider spreads than ECN competitors (0.90 pips EUR/USD)
- No API trading access
- No cTrader or TradingView
- $100 minimum deposit (higher than XM's $5 or Exness's $10)
Final Verdict
AvaTrade is purpose-built for beginners. The education is excellent, the copy trading options are the most diverse in our review, and the AvaTradeGO app removes the complexity that can intimidate new traders. If you're new to forex and want a broker that actively helps you learn, AvaTrade is the top recommendation.
The inactivity fee is the deal-breaker risk. If there's any chance you'll step away from trading for a few months, that $50 charge (and later $100) will sting. And as your skills develop and you start caring more about spreads and execution, you'll likely outgrow AvaTrade's spread-only model.
Think of AvaTrade as a starting point. It's one of the best places to learn. When you're ready for tighter spreads and more platform choice, Pepperstone or IC Markets will be waiting.
